How to add pet to Spirit flight?


Spirit Airlines' pet travel policy allows passengers to carry one pet carrier only. In one flight, six slots are available for pet carriers. Here are some regulations of this pet policy: 

  • Book the slot as early as possible. 

  • Passengers are allowed to bring their domestic household pets like 

    • Cat,

    • Dog,

    • Rabbit, and 

    • Birds. 

  • Passengers can travel with service animals, and they can stay outside the carrier. 

  • The pet must be 8 weeks old and weaned to travel. 

  • Spirit airlines doesn’t ask for any documents; however, some destinations have document requirements. 

  • Please check the destination's requirements beforehand. 

  • The pet must remain inside the carrier for the entire flight. 

  • If there are two pets in one carrier, ensure they are of the same breed and that they both are comfortable, have enough space for movement, and sleep. 

Pet carrier requirements: 

Spirit Pet Travel Policy allows pets to travel inside the pet carrier. 2 pets of the same breed can travel in one pet carrier. The pet carrier size should be 18x4x9 inches. The combined weight of both the pet and its carrier should not exceed 40 pounds. The pet carrier will be stored below the front seat only. 


The pet is not allowed to roam outside the carrier; the sides of the carrier must be soft and gentle. Make sure that the pet is not irritating and disturbing the flight; otherwise, they may be denied boarding the flight. Passengers traveling with a pet carrier are not allowed to sit in the emergency exit row or any seat which don’t have a front seat. The carrier must be fully ventilated and leak-proof. 

How to book a slot for a pet? 

Spirit Air's Pet Policy provides a few-step process by which passengers can book a slot for their pet. After completing your reservation, passengers have to reach the customer service, and they will book a slot for the pet. The fees for caring a pet carrier will be paid at the ticket counter only. 


The pet carrier will be scanned carefully. At check-in, if the carrier and the pet fulfill all the requirements, then they are allowed to go with you on the flight. 

What are the fees associated with pet transport? 

Passengers carrying a pet carrier have to pay $125 fee. If you are booking a ticket for a round trip, Spirit Airlines' pet fee decreases to $100. 

Service Pets and Spirit Airlines Dog Policy

Spirit Pet Policy allows passengers to travel with a service animal. Here are the regulations:  

  • Only dogs can travel as service animals. 

  • The staff at the airport may test the pet. 

  • Please fill in the U.S. DOT service animal air transportation form. 

  • The animal must stay with the specially abled person to help them. 

  • They can sit in the leg area of the passengers, they are not allowed to wander in the aisle area or any other passenger's seat.
